Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc & going to the movies alone
I finally watched Chainsaw Man, the movie!
I haven’t even been a fan of the anime for that long, which honestly makes it better since season one is still super fresh in my mind. To be completely transparent, I initially started watching it with my partner as a “something to watch together” show. He ended up not loving it, so it slowly turned into a little side-thing I had playing during my late dinners.
And even though it started off pretty silly and kinda immature, it surprised me. As the plot unfolded, it actually gained depth and weird little emotional punches. I got attached to these simple (and let’s be honest - absolutely insane) characters as I watched them struggle, grow, and reveal their layers.
And now it turns out the story is even deeper and more complicated than I thought.
MOVIE SPOILERS START
Things go from romantic to absolutely unhinged real fast. Reze goes full explosive powerhouse, Denji catches feelings and smoke, and suddenly they’re both fighting for completely opposite reasons. In the end, our foolish, silly little guy decides he just can’t fight his feelings anymore. Killing someone you actually have a real bond with (even if you’re on opposite sides, even if it’s messy) just isn’t in him. And honestly? Up until then, things felt pretty straightforward. Reze seemed shady, we kinda hated her, and Denji was clearly being led around by his hormones.
And there comes Kishibe to drop the biggest bomb of the whole movie (and there were a lot!). Turns out Reze is actually a kid who was experimented on in some inhumane Soviet lab where children were used as test subjects to make super-soldiers. Like, come on!!!!! And of course, she resonates with poor Denji; she also had a brutal childhood, didn't go to school and just wants some love!!!
And just when we think we’re finally getting a real heart-to-heart, a reunion where missions and differences are put aside, HERE COMES MAKIMA! I swear, this lady has been ultra sus from the beginning, but I'm officially a hater. I think she's hiding something massive, manipulating literally everyone (including Denji, duh) and just sank my ship, hello?! Also, GROOMER MUCH? Denji is like 16 pls!!!! I can't believe she cornered Reze right outside of the cafe - I was legit devastated... still thinking about Denji waiting for her inside with a whole ass bouquet while she's literally dying across the fucking street!!!!
All in all, I laughed, got heartbroken, got stressed, got intrigued - honestly, a great movie. So excited to see where the rest goes!
SPOILERS END
And now, for some extra thoughts on movie-watching:
I don't think it was the first time, but I went to watch the movie by myself and I honestly had a blast! There is the minus of not having someone to really vent about it and exchange opinions after (or during - yes, I am a little bit of a movie talker hehe), but at the same time, I was sooo involved with the movie itself, totally transported into the world that was on screen and forgot about reality. I'm sure if I were younger, I'd be a little more self-conscious about it, but honestly, I didn't give a fuck.
Go do more things by yourselves, people! No one actually cares, and if they do, it means they're simply too stupid for their opinion to actually matter. We don't have to wait for someone else to do the things we really want to!
Aaaand I'm out!
Thanks for hanging out:)
